CrossFit: CrossFit group classes are the main focus at CrossFit Annandale. We are happy to train anyone who has a smile and is willing to work hard. We can scale any workout, whether you are a Jack Bauer-esque type or have a relaxed desk job. We specialize in functional movements that work your entire body, and we love to do them at high intensity. It won’t be 30 minutes on the elliptical or using shiny machines that artificially reduce moving your body to single joints. What you will do is run, row, jump, climb, throw and catch things, and perform fast and slow lifts, among much more. We develop all 10 aspects of fitness (cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy) and we do so in small, fun, group-based classes. So, expect no TVs, no mirrors, and no magazines. Leave your ego at home and come ready to sweat.
Nutrition: To us, diet doesn’t mean restricting yourself of certain foods or a gimmicky way of eating (Anyone heard of that cookie diet? Or all liquid diets?). Diet is simply what you eat. We have seen clients make extraordinary progress doing CrossFit while making no changes to the way they eat. However, for the best results, we believe it is important to consider changing your eating habits. We follow the advice of CrossFit founder Greg Glassman who said: “Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise, but not excess body fat.” Pretty hard to argue with the basics of that statement. At CrossFit Annandale our coaches will consult with you to identify the best diet for your goals and to give you the resources and knowledge to follow your decision. In the end, diet, like CrossFit, is just part of a healthy lifestyle. It’s not about restrictions, it’s about choosing to reduce or eliminate unnatural and manufactured “food products” from your life. It’s about changing your relationship with food in a healthful way.
Seminars: We regularly host outside speakers and other seminars to gain new perspectives and expertise on subjects like strength training, tailoring CrossFit for a specific sport, nutrition, recovery, etc. Fees for seminars are either waived or reduced for CrossFit Annandale members.
Personal Training: We also offer individual personal training and also personal training in small groups. If you are interested in personal training please contact us for more information or ask any of the coaches while you are at the gym.
