Get to know Coach Kat!

Most of us have had the chance to meet or be coached by Kat, if you haven't, you're missing out. She is a wonderful addition on CFA and we're excited to have her as a coach! Here is a quick interview to give you a little insight into Kat - 




1. Why did you start CrossFit?

I started CrossFit because I was sick of running 3 miles a day and doing traditional globo-gym dumbbell workouts. CrossFit offered a variety that made me excited to go to the gym. CrossFit also changed my outlook on exercise. Instead of exercising for aesthetic goal, I am now training to become a better athlete.


2. What’s your athletic background?

I grew up taking dance and tumbling classes and was a cheerleader throughout middle and high school.


3. What is your spirit animal?

According to a BuzzFeed quiz, my spirit animal is the bear!


4. What do you love to do in your spare time?

I'm currently working towards my masters in Exercise, Fitness, and Health Promotion so when I'm not studying or training at CFA, I'm spending time with my husband and dog or watching Food Network!


5. Favorite treat?

Cupcakes! or ice-cream-- ideally both! haha


6. Favorite CF move?

Burpees. I know how much burpees are loathed in the CF world but I feel like I can fall into a good rhythm with them.


7. Dreaded CF move?

Ring muscle ups. I got my first muscle up about 2 years ago but they are still a weakness of mine, mentally and physically. They are the 1 movement that I dread seeing in a workout.


 8. Best CF moment so far?

This is such a hard question! I love CF so much and have so many memorable moments but the first that comes to mind is when I PR'd my snatch a few months ago. I kept missing 165 so I just jumped to 170 and hit it on the first try. My husband was there to see it too so that made it extra special.


9. What is one goal you have for this year?

My goals have switched around a little since starting school so my goal is just to be able to excel in school, enjoy every minute training at CFA, and continue to become a better coach.


10. Most embarrassing song that you love?

I LOVE rap and EDM so I have a good amount of embarrassing (and not quite appropriate) songs all on a playlist that I love to listen to when I work out. The most embarrassing song on that playlist is probably "Fight Night" by Migos. And if anyone is interested in listening to that killer workout playlist, follow me on Spotify!


11. If you were a cereal which kind would you be?

Cinnamon Life Cereal!
